Previously I’ve used WordPress for my site and blogs. Usually because it’s a few clicks and installed into your hosting solution (in most cases at least), but I’ve grown a bit tired of using it. Mainly due to the spam emails around comments, posts, and security alerts from random login attempts, but also having to update plugins, some themes not being very mobile friendly and it being quite bulky for my use case.

I started making notes in markdown around things I would usually write in a blog, often because they are private but sometimes just to remind myself of a particular topic or a plan to flesh it out and share it. Since this is already a habit, it made sense to explore options around static site generators that use markdown. So welcome Hugo!

I’m starting from scratch (in terms of posts) with this though. My main passions are software development and music so much of my focus will be around these topics.

Looking forward to writing more about all this in the coming days.
